Where to play golf in Cork

For many tourists to the area the most difficult decision boils down to choosing where to play golf in Cork. With an abundance of quality courses we spent an agnosingly long time testing them all and can confidently recommend the following as the most enjoyable and simultaneously challenging courses in west Cork.

Glengarriff Golf Club

Consisting of a par 66, 18 hole course our local golf club, the Glengarriff Golf Club, is a great way to start the day. With breathtaking views across Bantry bay and early bird green fees of only €15 for those teeing off before 10am Glengarriff Golf Club represents great value for money. Weekend green fees rise to €25 with normal weekday fees coming in at  €20. Glengarriff's most famous resident, the film star Dr Maureen O'Hara-Blair is the clubs honorary president.

Bantry Bay Golf Club

West Cork offers a stunning array of full length golf courses. Bantry Bay Golf Club, in the direct vicinity of the hotel, offers a challenging yet enjoyable Par 71 parkland course at extremely reasonable rates of between €35 for low season and €40 during the high season. For your convenience the club offers a range of services including Club Hire, Caddy Car & Buggy Hire and Locker Rooms. The contemporary club house also benefits from a bar and restaurant for the perfect place to relax after conquering the course.

Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club

A further half hour drive away is the delightful Skibbereen & West Carbery Golf Club. It is also a Par 71 parkland course, which benefits from it's location on the beautiful Lough Hyne near the village of Baltimore and its surrounding islands. The views are second to none as you wind your way around the course and of course the 19th hole is a must for any avid golfer. Prices are great value at €35 May-Sept and €30 Oct-Apr

Bandon Golf Club and Kinsale Golf Club

For those willing to travel slightly further these two golf clubs have much to offer. Both lying just over an hours drive away they are popular with locals and tourists alike. Both are parkland courses with the Par 6 Bandon course ideal for those who want to wind down and take things at a leisurely pace. If you are looking for a greater challenge the Kinsale course is well wooded and at Par 71 offers some technically challenging holes to test even the most experienced golfer. Bandon Golf Club's rates are €30 Mon-Fri and €35 Sat-Sun. Kinsale is €30 Mon-Thur and €40 Fri-Sun. Both offer club hire and buggy rental and of course the clubhouse bar and dining facilities.

Lisselan Golf Course

For those of you who want to experience a day of golf like no other the Lisselan Golf Course is a must. Based only a stones throw from the famous village of Clonakilty this golf course is set in the magical gardens of the Lisselan Estate. While the course is only a 9 hole affair the experience is what makes playing this course special. Besides the beautiful gardens and house on the grounds golfers can enjoy the motorised raft which takes you from 8th fairway to green along with the motrised railcars which transport you from the green to the next tee. Prices for this technically challenging course are €30 on the weekend and €27.50 during the week with discounts available for Seniors, Students and Juveniles. Booking in advance is recommended to avoid the disappointment of not playing one the best best 9 holes in Ireland.
