Sea Kayaking
For those feeling adventurous, Glengarriff offer incredible sea kayaking opportunities across the bay, just a two-minute walk from the hotel. Kayak through deserted wooded islands, explore sheltered coves and rugged coastlines and experience the abundant wildlife and friendly seals of Glengarriff Bay. Learn the skills to master your kayak with an experienced qualified guide and discover some of the local legends and history, all from the unique perspective of the sea! West Cork Garden Trail
When you stay, why not enjoy the renowned West Cork Garden Trail. West Cork is truly the garden paradise of Ireland, bathed as it is in the balm of the Gulf Stream which facilitates luxuriant sub-tropical growth of a kind associated with much lower latitudes. Our gardens are wonderful and diverse, healing and tranquil and must be seen! So, go on. Do yourself a favour and trail on down to us! Nearby we are lucky to have Bantry House and Gardens, the Bamboo Park, Garinish Island and the Ewe Experience to explore.
Cycle
Cycling is a wonderful way to enjoy the beauties of Beara and we can recommend a number of routes to suit your needs. Try the Beara Way Cycling Route – this route is mostly on country roads passing through all towns and villages on the Beara Peninsula. There is no start or finish so you can join the route in any town or village. Find out where you can hire bikes near us by contacting reception.
Outdoor Activities
Get active on one of these exciting outdoor activities. Why not try your hand at bushcraft with experienced instructors to teach you some of the basic survival skills needed in the wild. Finally, why not try a hike in the stunning natural surroundings of Glengarriff. All our outdoor group activities are led by experienced qualified guides where all equipment is provided and no experience is necessary. Golf
Golf your way around stunning West Cork starting in our local course, Maureen O’Hara’s Glengarriff Golf Club and venture on to Bantry Bay Golf Club, with spectacular views before going further afield to golf the beautiful courses around West Cork and the Wild Atlantic Way. Glengarriff’s nine holes are in one of the loveliest settings in Ireland, with scenic views abounding – the one from the fifth tee is exceptionally beautiful! Bamboo Park
Very close to us here at Eccles Hotel is a unique exotic garden, the Bamboo Park, situated in the mild climate of Glengarriff. The garden features thirty different species of bamboo surrounded by palms and other tropical plants, amidst of romantic paths and breathtaking views. This stunning park is open all year round and is just minutes walk from the hotel.
Boat Trips
Why not take a ferry across to the beautiful Garinish Island when you stay? The ferry departs from Glengarriff Pier every 30 minutes during the season and journey time is approximately 15 minutes where you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings and even see Seal Island on the way, with the largest and friendliest colony of harbour seals in Ireland. Garinish Island is located in the sheltered harbour of Glengarriff in Bantry Bay, easily visible from Eccles Hotel. Garinish is a small island known to horticulturists and lovers of trees and shrubs all around the world as an island garden of rare beauty.

Less than a 5-minute drive from the hotel, rest, connect and revive amongst the magnificent ancient oak forest in Glengarriff Nature Reserve. Glengarriff Parkrun
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it’s up to you! Held every Saturday at 9:30am, this event takes place at Glengarriff Nature Reserve. Please see the course page for more details. It costs nothing to take part – it’s free – run by a collective of volunteers. If you want to record your times please register before you first come along. Only ever register with parkrun once and don’t forget to bring a scannable copy of your barcode. For those who just want to join in without registering you are more than welcome! Buggies and dogs are welcome also.
